Plug & Play Pavilion

Multicultural City Pavilion Competition, 2018

“ A PUBLIC SPACE CANNOT ATTRACT PEOPLE WHERE THERE IS NO ONE TO BEGIN WITH AND PEOPLE DO NOT FEEL SAFE STOPPING IN A PUBLIC SPACE IF THERE IS NO ONE WALKING ON THE SURROUNDING STREETS. ”

- Jane Jacobs, 1961

This proposal provides users from different cultures/country a flexible, sustainable and interactive urban public space in Portsmouth. The light up fragmented module is representing people of different cultures gather and interact to form a multicultural community. The form, with multiplepixel projections assemble on top of each other, reflects the irregular arrangement of the space. Hence, the form of the installation is to represent the movement of waves that reminisence the culture of Portsmouth.
